Rutting deer hunting in Spain
The rutting of a deer is one of the most fascinating spectacles nature offers us in Spain. Every autumn, our country's mountains are filled with sounds and life as the males of this species begin to mark their territory and compete for females.
This time, we head into the mountains of Ciudad Real , one of the best destinations to experience this phenomenon, accompanied by organic farmer Carlos Merello . The mission: to hunt Gonzalo's first rutting deer.
Our adventure after the deer
With each step, we heard the deep bellow of the males echoing through the forest, a clear sign of their presence and the challenge of approaching them, which didn't bring us much luck on the first day.
Equipped with the Howa M1500 HSS Precision Varmint Carbon rifle and the Nikko Stirling Diamond scope from BCN Outdoor, we set out on a patient hunt. This rifle, with its Kevlar, fiberglass, and carbon construction, is perfect for tackling the most demanding conditions, while the scope offered unparalleled clarity, essential for accurate shooting.
On the second day, at dawn, the reward finally arrived. After hours of searching, we located the majestic deer surrounded by his harem. The shot was incredible, culminating in an unforgettable moment that you can now enjoy on our YouTube channel.
After shooting the deer, we butcher it and take it back to our car so we can give the animal the end it deserves, and what better way than to make the most of it.
