Sierra de la Culebra burns
VIDEO OF THE SIERRA DE LA CULEBRA FIRE
By Jerónimo Cuesta (Cinegetics)
"There are things in life for which one is never prepared. The impact of the first images and videos that arrived on my phone generated a sensation that I will never forget.
They say that you don't miss the places but everything you felt in them. A shiver full of memories ran down my back leaving a sadness that at times brings me down and at times gives me the necessary strength to help as much as possible the mountain range that has most marked my life, the Sierra de la Culebra.
An unstoppable fire was devouring at lightning speed the wildest corners I have ever known, the cradle of the wolf, the mother of the largest deer in Spain was being consumed amid cries of impotence and rage. What an indescribable feeling!
The phone kept ringing, receiving worse and worse news and omens while, looking at the few clouds in the sky, I asked the rain to fall in the mountains, rubbing my tired eyes that filled with tears of pure nostalgia and impotence.
I would not like to evaluate what others did or did not do, I would like to tell what I felt and what has been the process of my feelings about it, because as the days go by they evolve and without forgetting the sadness that visits me every night, an impulse was born in me to revolutionise everything, I decided to organise and orchestrate, with the help of many people who have worked with me side by side, a whole line of actions with the aim of feeding the mountain with food for the wildlife and livestock of the devastated villages in the area.
As fate would have it, YWH, with whom I had arranged a meeting in Zamora, happened to be there with the team and cameras on one of those emotional days. Quickly, seeing the impact of what happened, we decided to record everything to give a faithful testimony of everything that our eyes were discovering... and thus was born this report that tries to encapsulate our firm will to give everything we have inside us to safeguard and help the rural world and the wild nature, for me the greatest show in the world.
May the light shine again as quickly as it extinguished you, my dear sierra de la culebra".
