Hunting reaffirms its commitment to the environment

Today, June 5, is World Environment Day. Hunting, an ancient practice, plays a crucial role in the management and conservation of the environment. Although it is often perceived negatively, it can be a vital tool for maintaining ecological balance, conserving species and managing natural resources.

In the Valencian Community alone, more than 16 million euros have been invested in environmental improvements. This community has shown great commitment, keeping water troughs and feeders full so that the species can cope with drought, hunting crops, predator control or improvements in shelters and nurseries.

What contribution does hunting make to the environment?

Population Regulation

One of the most significant benefits of hunting is the regulation of wildlife populations. Without sufficient natural predators, certain species can overgrow, leading to overpopulation. This can result in habitat degradation, reduced biodiversity, and increased disease among animals. Hunters, acting under strict regulations, help keep animal populations within the limits that the ecosystem can support, avoiding damage to the natural environment.

Habitat Conservation

Responsible hunters are often passionate conservationists who are invested in protecting habitats. Through licenses, quotas, and other taxes, hunters contribute financially to conservation programs and the maintenance of nature reserves. These funds are used for land management, ecosystem preservation, and scientific research, benefiting a wide variety of species, not just those hunted.

Invasive Species Control

Hunting also plays an important role in controlling invasive species. These species, having no natural predators in their new environment, can wreak havoc on local populations and ecosystems. Regulated hunting of these species helps protect native biodiversity and restore the natural balance in affected habitats.

Education and Consciousness

Committed hunters are often well informed about ecosystem dynamics and the importance of conservation. Through hunter organizations and educational programs, awareness about wildlife and habitat conservation is promoted. These hunters often participate in environmental restoration activities, natural area clean-ups, and reforestation projects, demonstrating a deep respect and care for the environment.

Supporting Local Economies

Regulated hunting also benefits local economies, especially in rural areas. Hunting ecotourism attracts hunters from different regions, generating income for local communities through accommodation, food, licenses and other services. This economic flow can be vital to the sustainability of communities that depend on the natural environment.

Commitment to Sustainability

Hunters' commitment to sustainability is essential. Ethical and regulated hunting is based on principles of sustainability and conservation. Responsible hunters follow strict regulations that include specific hunting seasons, quotas, and a ban on hunting endangered species. This approach ensures that hunting is not just a recreational activity, but a practice that actively contributes to environmental conservation.
