The law of the three layers
Finally it seems that winter has arrived, and with it, the rain, the wind and the cold. That is why, in this blog we explain how to face a nature outing with extreme weather.
The option that we offer is the "three-layer theory" , this consists of choosing clothing to protect the body from its own sweat and from inclement weather that may occur during your day. This theory is nothing new, as mountain and nature experts have used it for decades.
The origin of the theory
In the past, mountaineers faced great challenges loaded with layers and layers of clothing, we only have to see the photographs of the first climbers of peaks such as Eiger or Everest. People who, without any type of innovation in tactical clothing, climbed monstrous mountains with a climate that would make anyone's hair stand on end.
Little by little in the middle of the 20th century, synthetic fibers, breathable materials, waterproof layers or polar fabric appeared. But the great revolution came with the Helly Hansen brand of Norwegian origin, which proposed these bases to go out into the mountains. This theory is used for any type of activity such as hunting, trekking, mountaineering, mountain biking, etc. And it should be used on both the upper and lower body (also recommended on the hands and feet) to create a microclimate in your body.
How does it work?
We explain the theory so that you can apply it and we also recommend a garment for each layer of the Swedteam brand.
First layer: the one that is attached to the skin
This garment is always in contact with the skin, it acts as a kind of "second skin" and we must keep it dry. That is why we have to wear fabrics that perspire sweat and that do not absorb or retain it. Depending on the temperature that we are going to face, we will vary the thickness of the interior thermal. If the day is warm and sunny, only this layer will be used.
Second layer: warm and insulate
The function it has is to maintain our body heat and act as an insulator from the cold. The most common example is a fleece or fleece vest. These garments will be used to remove and put on to self-regulate the temperature according to the outside climate.
Also in our YWH store you can find the perfect fleece to complete the three layers.
Its main function is to protect us from the most frequent climatic factors in nature: cold, wind, water and snow. This last layer must be resistant and with waterproof membranes to ensure that moisture does not enter the second layer. You can be sure that you will be completely dry whether you are hunting on the move or staying still at your post. It is a very interesting factor to take into account that your garment has extra ventilation zones, in this way it will help to disperse excess heat and evaporation that occurs while we move.
