2024 Royal Club of Monteros Awards
The Real Club de Monteros (RCM) has recently announced the winners of the 2024 RCM Awards, continuing a tradition started in 1992 by the then president, Don Iñigo Moreno de Arteaga, Marquis of Laserna. These awards recognise people who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to hunting and conservation, as well as those who have stood out in the artistic and literary fields related to hunting.
Club de Monteros Award for Hunting Personality
The prestigious "Club de Monteros Award for Hunting Personality" has been awarded to Mr. Juan Abelló Gallo. This award recognises individuals who have become role models in the practice of hunting. Juan Abelló Gallo is not only an outstanding hunter in various types of big and small game, but he has also carried out commendable work in the promotion and management of the countryside and hunting. His commitment to the conservation of species and environments, as well as his participation in numerous programmes and projects, make him worthy of this recognition in its thirty-first edition.
Club de Monteros Award for Art and Culture
The "Club de Monteros Award for Art and Culture" was awarded to Mr. Miguel Carretero Sánchez. This award is given biannually and recognises those who have dedicated their creative capacity to the field of hunting. Miguel Carretero Sánchez, chef and hunter, has managed to bring the excellence of game meat to a demanding public, unaware of its benefits, through his award-winning restaurant "Santerra" in Madrid. His words at the Michelin Star Gala, "The secret is to work on what you have always believed in", reflect his dedication and passion for traditional hunting gastronomy.
Jaime de Foxá Literary Prize
In addition, the winner of the "Jaime de Foxá Literary Prize" has been announced, established in 1996 to recognize the best article on hunting topics published in the national press. This year, the award has gone to Mrs. Cristina Clemares Pérez-Tabernero for her article "Sueños Traicioneros", published in the Jara y Sedal Magazine in November 2023. Cristina Clemares, a graduate in History from the University of Salamanca and a director in educational centers, is passionate about the countryside and hunting, and regularly collaborates with the magazine writing opinion articles on current hunting issues. This award includes a cash prize of three thousand euros and a commemorative medal from the Club.
Award Ceremony
The awards were presented during the traditional dinner held by the Real Club de Monteros at its headquarters at the Cantoblanco Shooting Club. The winners received a diploma and an artistic figure representing the award, a bronze commissioned specifically from the sculptor and member, Mr. José Antonio Lalanda Mejía.
These awards not only celebrate excellence in the practice of hunting and conservation, but also highlight the cultural and artistic impact that this tradition can have on our society. Since its creation, the Real Club de Monteros Awards have sought to recognize and encourage dedication to hunting and nature, promoting values of conservation, respect and knowledge.
